Whether you’re launching a spirit, stocking a bar or simply curious, knowing your liquor bottle sizes makes everything easier — from pricing and pouring to packaging design. This guide breaks down every standard spirits and wine bottle size, in both millilitres (mL) and fluid ounces (oz), and explains what each one is used for.

Why is 750 mL called “a fifth”?
The standard 750 mL bottle is still nicknamed a “fifth” because, before the US switched to metric in 1980, the standard size was one-fifth of a US gallon (757 mL). The industry rounded to 750 mL, and the name stuck. Today it is the default for most glass liquor and spirits bottles.

Quick mL-to-oz reference
50 mL = 1.7 oz · 200 mL = 6.8 oz · 375 mL = 12.7 oz · 700 mL = 23.7 oz · 750 mL = 25.4 oz · 1 L = 33.8 oz · 1.75 L = 59.2 oz. For a full chart, see our oz to mL conversion guide.

Choosing a bottle size for your brand
Your bottle size shapes shelf presence, perceived value and cost per unit. Most spirits launch in the 750 mL standard, add 50 mL minis for sampling, and use 1.75 L handles for on-trade volume. At GlassRock, we manufacture every size above — standard or fully bespoke — with custom shapes, colours and closures, at low minimum order quantities.
