How many drops per mL, really

Real counts run 15 to 25 drops per ml: thick carrier oils fall as large drops (fewer per ml), thin alcohol-based tinctures as small ones (more per ml). For a brand, the consequence is practical: if your label makes a claim like “60 servings”, validate the drop count with your formula in your dropper, not from the convention. A serving claim built on 20 drops/ml can be 20% off in either direction with the same bottle and a different liquid.
Anatomy of a dropper bottle
A dropper package is a four-part system, and the parts are specified separately:
- The bottle — usually a Boston round or Euro round in amber glass (UV protection for oils and actives), with an 18 mm or 20 mm neck (DIN 18 is the essential-oil standard).

Work backwards from the daily dose. A facial serum used at 4–6 drops a day consumes about 0.25 ml daily: a 30 ml bottle is a four-month supply — ideal, since most serums should be used within 6–12 months of opening. An essential oil diffused at 8 drops a session lasts a month in a 10 ml bottle. Match the bottle to the use-up period, not to the biggest number that looks generous: an oversized bottle of an oxidising formula is a refund waiting to happen.
